OVERVIEW

What is it?

The resource page Gender Equality and Non-discrimination is a repository of guidances and tools to advance EU Commitments to Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment It is composed of tools for gender mainstreaming in all phases of the Intervention Cycle.
The page offers you practical guidance on how to promote and mainstream gender equality and achieve more equitable and sustainable development results. It will support you on creating awareness and knowledge on the gender dimension of interventions ensuring that no one is left behind and/or negatively affected by development cooperation interventions.  It proposes valid methodological tools for gender mainstreaming; it is not, however, a procedural guide.

What can it be used for?

The repository includes methodological guidance for all phases of the intervention cycle to ensure that gender is mainstreamed. You can use the tools to inform political and/or policy dialogues, the design of specific interventions as well as mid-term reviews and dialogue with partners national governments. Therefore, it provides you with p guidance at each phase of the cycle (programming, design, implementation, closure) to ensure that the actions are not gender-blind. Moreover, the tools raise awareness on the possibility of aiming at a more transformative approach towards women's empowerment within the interventions.

When can it be used?

We encourage you to consult the different tools from the beginning of the programming and/or the design phase to shape political and policy dialogue and to formulate the EU interventions. Therefore, tools are provided for different phases of the programming and intervention cycle to meet its various objectives, to take corrective measure and to reflect contextual changes.

Who can use it?
  • Any EU services (INTPA, NEAR, FPI, EEAS, ECHO) either at Headquarters or in a Delegation as well as by implementing partners.
What are its strengths?
  • The Resource Package will help you to use the right tools to mainstream gender equality and promote women's empowerment while avoiding too dispersive searches of others tools and loosing focus.
What are its limitations?
  • Lack of information (e.g. the gender analysis, sex disaggregated data) or difficulty accessing resources or inadequate planning might influence the effective use of some tools.
