How to eTranslate a page in the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps Wiki Guides

1) Go to the Wiki page and click translate

Each Public Wiki page will have these two buttons added on the top: 

By clicking either the globe symbol or the Translate button the user initiates a machine translation of the current page. 
A pop-up window with a disclaimer and a language selection box is shown.

2) Select language and start the translation

To start a translation:

1. open the language drop-down box
2. select your language in drop-down box
3. click the button Accept and continue

This starts the translation process. 

3) Wait for translation to complete

While the translation is ongoing a banner is showing in the bottom right of the screen, explaining in the selected language that the page is being translated, please wait and with an option to cancel the translation. 

Depending on the size and the complexity of the selected page, the translation will take between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.

4) Read the translated page

When the translation is completed, the translated page is replacing the body of the original page. 

In the bottom right of the page a box is displayed with a disclaimer and an option to return to the original page. 

Provide feedback on Translation service (optional)

You have the option to provide your comments to the translation tool by clicking the link to provide answer on two questions. Note that this comment is not related to the Wiki documentation, but only to the eTranslation itself. 

You may here give your feedback on the quality of the provided eTranslation and optionally provide comments. To submit your answer you must provide an antispam verification before clicking Submit.

Problems with translation

If there is a problem with the translation or the translation tool, an error message is displayed. Please try again after 30 minutes.

Limitations of eTranslation of Wiki documentation

• The title on the page is not translated (except if also included in the body of the page).
• Only the currently selected page is translated, with all included contents. 
• Only few Confluence functions are available for the translated page, however, the translated contents can be printed or saved as PDF by using Ctrl+P and select PDF as format.
• Any special formatting such as bolding and italic may not be displayed correctly after translation.
• Hyperlink titles are translated, even though the underlying pages are not.
• Labels and descriptive text are translated, whereas screenshots are not.
• Translation of text in the Table of Content may not match the translation of headers in the document, but the linking works.
• Certain abbreviations are incorrectly translated, for example ESC (European Solidarity Corps) may be translated to CES in some languages. 
• References from external documentation, such as Programme Guides, may not be correctly translated. It is recommended for these to check the official translation of the respective guide.
• The translated version of a page is cached locally in the browser, and if an existing translation is found for the selected page and the selected language which is less than 30 minutes old, it will display in stead of initiating a new translation.
• It is not possible to enhance the translation / correct errors.
• It is not possible to exclude specific words and terms, which are wrongly translated or should not be translated, from the translations. This is currently being investigated.
• A number of non-EU languages are still under implementation (NO, IS, TR).
• Text in images or graphical elements are not translated.
