In order to ensure coherence of our web presence, European Commission documentation must not be hosted outside ec.europa.eu or hosted on the sites of private companies.
Documentation (other than code and technical documentation) must be hosted on ec.europa.eu instead and link to repositories, wherever needed. On the other hand, related code or purely technical documentation may be stored differently, according to industry standards.
Storage procedure depends on document type:
- Code – stored according to industry standards in appropriate code repositories and following proper code storage best practices (versioning, controlled access permissions, backups),
- Technical – covers documentation directly related to code. Two storage options available: either maintained with the code if necessary or on a wiki (extranet or CITnet wiki for protected access, public wiki for public access if needed),
- Non-code – covers documentation not directly linked to code. Storage on a wiki (extranet or CITnet wiki for protected access, public wiki for public access if needed) or on an existing public/protected web site (e.g. user manuals on functionalities of a public site: user guide for the Have your say consultation tool (Better Regulation Project) should be hosted on the BRP instance while user documentation on the participation to tenders should be included in the specific application portals).
