If you know the AWU for each person:  please use the following approach presented below.:

  • For each percentage bands separately, sum up the AWUs of all persons classified in that percentage band.
  • For each percentage bands separately, divide the sum of AWUs to the number of persons classified in that percentage band.  
    The result is the required point of the AWU percentage band.

At Eurostat, we know the number of persons falling in each AWU percentage bandsband. If we multiply this number of person persons by your calculated point, we obtain the correct total AWU of the persons. Instead, if we multiply this number of person persons by the centers of the intervals i.e., 0.125, 0.375, 0.625, 0.875, then our calculated total AWU will differ from your calculated total AWU.  thereforeTherefore, this serves to reduce the discrepancies of data on labour force published at national and EU level.
